With the 2006 World Rock Paper Scissors Championships coming up in November in Toronto and $10,000.00 on the line (not to mention bragging rights of being able to call yourself “World Champion of RPS”), trying to get some sort of edge on your competition is becoming a focal point for a lot of players.

How to turn a normal WordPress installation into a working online shop
September 30th, 2006 — GeekTech
Loads of people I know would like to set up shop online, and either don’t have the time or money to have a designer / programmer come in and do the job for them. I was helping someone do exactly this, and I thought I would share the technique with everyone.

Why Apple Will Change TV
September 30th, 2006 — GeekTech
Steve Jobs described the iTV as Apple’s entry into the living room, as if it were a strategic move in a larger game plan. But with several wireless TV extenders already on the market, why will Apple’s be any different? Here’s why - Daniel Eran, RoughlyDrafted Magazine
Ryan’s 1st Poem
September 28th, 2006 — Family
We were very proud of Ryan for writing his first poem for school. He did a great job creating this poem.
Roses are red, Violets are blue
I see a red leaf on my shoe.
Birds are singing and bees are buzzing
People are sleeping, I will be dreaming of me sweeping
Jumping in the leaves is really fun
But now I have to go run in the sun.
Now, I’m Done
Xee, a great alternative to Preview
September 27th, 2006 — GeekTech
Looking for a fast and simple image preview application for Mac OS? I think the best I have found is Xee. The biggest problem I have with Preview is that you can not load a directory of photos by just choosing a directory and then boom the pictures come up.
Xee is cool but the best photo preview application I have found is only on Windows, BreezeBrowser. I really like Breeze Browser because my wife and I have never made the switch to a database backend image editing/sorting application. We will make that change once we get my wives photo business started up in Austin. Watch out all you Austin photgraphers here we come!!!!
Coachin in Austin
September 27th, 2006 — Family
As some of you know I have a passion for coaching youth sports. I have coached soccer, baseball, T-Ball, roller hockey, ice hockey, basketball, and even a little kickball. I started out coaching at the “Y” in Houston and learned a lot about the kids and how to organize great practice plans to let the kids have fun and learn about the game. I have coached over 25 youth teams in 4-5 years. Oh, just in case you cared, I consider baseball the toughest sport to coach.
My coaching philosophy for the kids is:
1. Have fun
2. Learn about the game (skills & game tactics)
3. Win a few
I started coaching now that we have moved to Austin and I am having a great time with the kids. I am assistant coaching Ryan’s hockey team and coaching soccer.
For hockey things are different because we simply do not have as many kids in Austin to do only a league where we practice once a week and then play a game on the weekend. Right now we are spending a few months on skating and stick handling drills and then game tactics. We are doing a few tournaments as well. I have noticed that the power skating drills compared to Houston drills are the pretty close to the same but some are different and much more challenging. I have also noticed that the kids in Austin can shoot the puck in the air a lot more than kids in Houston.
Soccer is very different since Ryan and Krystal are on the same team. That is a pretty big age gap ( 6 and 8 ) on the same team. I had my 1st practice and I was pleasantly surprised with the kids. The field needs quick a bit of work but I think we are going to have a great time.
I plan to continue coaching and am considering a video series on how-to coach youth sports no matter the sport, no matter the experience of the coach. I thought I would just let everyone know that I am still coaching and though things are a little different the kids are still great and I am still loving it.
I will keep you posted on how the kids are doing as the seasons continue.
Happy Birthday to ME!
September 25th, 2006 — Family
I celebrated my 26th (oops, 36th) Birthday on 9/25. It was great fun. We celebrated a week before when my mom came into town to get her computer fixed and we went out to Olive Garden for a great dinner. Then on my birthday Jeanee and the kids surprised me with a great dinner at our luxurious Presidio estate. They all surprised me with a great party theme, Strawberry Shortcake
