This summer we visited the USS Alabama and met a wonderful man. This man is Col. Glenn D. Frazier and he is a WWII veteran, a former Japanese POW, Bataan death march survivor, and above all a gentleman. I had the luxury of purchasing his book titled, “Hell’s Guest“.
This book is one of many war books I have read, but like no other it was very hard to put down until I finished it. The other item that kept me very excited about this book was the fact that I had the opportunity to meet Col. Frazier and see what an incredible person he is after the war.
The personal stories of the battle in the Phillipines and his years of a Japanese POW are truly amazing. Col. Frazier is a man of superb strength, courage, and wisdom. Not only does this book tell of his stories during the war but shares how he incredibly was able to forgive later in life.
The book also demonstrates what the true meaning of POW abuse really is. I was quickly able to see how fortunate today’s American POWs from Afghanistan and Irag are. I would like to sit down and hear how Col. Frazier would apply the wisdom of his life to today’s top headlines surrounding POW treatment.
I highly recommend this book to anyone.
During my short time meeting Col. Frazier, Ryan and Krystal had the opportunity to meet him and talk to him. That short visit has formed a life long memory in their mind.
Colonel Frazier signed the book we purchased and wrote a small note to the kids in the book for them. When Ryan and Krystal are old enough I plan to share this book with them so they too can realize how fortunate we are to have been in the presence of a true American hero.
Below is a picture of Ryan & Krystal with this incredible man.
